Federal Programs/Impact Aid Hearing
The Mahnomen School District will hold its regularly scheduled Impact Aid Hearing on Wednesday, October 13th at 7 p.m. in the High School Library. This hearing process is the initial step required of all school districts in order to qualify for Impact Aid during the year 2021-2022. All Mahnomen School District residents are invited to attend and participate in the meeting.
There will be a presentation and reviews of all school programs as well as any specific offerings of classes or programs conducted to meet the needs of American Indian students. After the local hearing, the qualifying process continues during the coming year with the submission of a formal application. It will detail the number of federally impacted students and show that number as a percentage of the total student population. The 2020 application indicated that 467 students out of the total 693 student body (67%) at Mahnomen Schools were federally connected. To be counted as federally connected the child’s parent/guardian needs to either reside on, or be employed, on Federal properties.
In their formal application, school districts assure that they have policies and procedures in place which involve Indian Tribal Officials and parents in education program planning. The district policy outlines specific steps to assure that all students are given equal opportunity and equal access to all programs. The Mahnomen School District’s position statement is that it is dedicated to providing a positive learning experience for all students through academics, citizenship, and self-esteem.
